About Us


During any construction project, the field will tell you where your project is at. However, the information that is delivered to management is usually biased or subjective.

Our mission at HowardKind is to gather field information that is non-bias or subjective and provides a clear picture of where your project stands. We use two different methods to gather information:

Software:
  • Baseline the project scope by scrapping engineering documents.
  • Overlay the engineering documents with scope identifiers.
  • Place virtual buttons that allow the scope to be progressed straight to a database.
  • Photo, notes, and punch items stored on the drawing to allow for easy access.
  • Engineering, specifications, and standards available at the work front.
Coordination and Quantity Survey:
  • Small group of pre-vetted coordinators that understand the construction process.
  • A non-combative approach when working with a Contractor: conversationalist not confrontationalist.
  • Practical problem-solving approach to move construction forward. Continuous field presence working with the contractor and updating progress.

Our Founders

Donald Howard, P. Eng., MBA, started his career as a scaffolder working hands-on on industrial construction projects for over 10 years ultimately as a scaffolding foreman.

Earning a mechanical engineering degree and following up with an MBA, Don has gone on to managing industrial construction projects throughout western Canada. Don has over 20 years of experience of field-level construction experience.

In his spare time, Don enjoys spending time with his family and has become a gourmet chef and grill-master.


David Kind, P. Eng., spent early parts of his career as a software developer pivoting later to a degree in mechanical engineering. David has over 20 years of experience designing software, detailed engineering design, and engineering management.

In his spare time, David enjoys photography and motorsports. David has volunteered as a board member of the Edmonton Rally Club.



Services


Howard Kind has access to a small group of industry professionals. These relationships have been developed during the last 20 years in construction. Our team can plug into your CMT (construction management team) and provide immediate value.

The Howard Kind coordinator talent pool consists of piping, mechanical, and electrical coordinators. Howard Kind directors have personally worked with our coordinators over the years. Our approach to construction is conversational not confrontational. We work with contractors to achieve desired results.

  • Our coordinators focus on mentoring, problem solving, and moving construction forward.
  • Progressive construction walk-downs:
    • Our team will conduct progressive walk-downs during the project.
    • Information will be stored on the HK proprietary software.
    • All information is uploaded to a cloud-based database.
    • Data can then be used to confirm construction contractors progress, audit PF, and forecast end date.
  • Auditing & Planning
  • Extensive field knowledge and ability to evaluate contractor progress.
  • Able to develop schedules (P6 or excel)


Innovation


We support coordinators with our custom software. The application allows for simple access to drawings and other engineering documents:
  • Search is based on information coordinators would look for: line number, equipment tag, etc.
  • Drawings are linked together by their continuations. Allowing the next drawing to be brought up seamlessly.
  • Scope elements are identified and become updatable fields and store data against them.
  • This creates a tapestry of construction data that is hung by the engineering.
  • Data is extractable and usable in other formats (excel)
